Baby hats are taking center stage

Everyone's having babies. Or pregnant. Or just had babies. Except me (thank you, BCPs!)

I am a somewhat slow knitter with ADD tendencies. I always must have at least 4 or 5 projects on the needles, and I even finish most of them. So when a new baby is announced, instead of undertaking a substantial project, like a sweater or a blanket for the little shaver, I like to make hats. They're cute and they're quick. Really, you can't gt much better than that.

Back in September, I made a pumpkin hat for DH's friend's baby. Here it is in progress:













Sadly, I completed it in a place where there was no camera, so no finished pics.

I made a few more hats for my coworker's baby shower that went down this week. I thought that I would make them in a variety of sizes so that the baby could grow into them. I ended up making an Ogre/Shrek hat in a newborn size. I made devil and an anime character hat in baby/toddler sizes. All were cute. And all surprised my coworkers. Despite the fact that my firm employs less than 30 people and I'm constantly wearing handknits and/or talking about my latest knitting projects, it seemed as if nobody knew I could knit. WTF!? Evidently my suspicions are true... nobody listens to me!

I am quite happy with how the hats turned out. I ran out of time on the green one with the ears. It's supposed to have a face crocheted on it. However, my crochet skillz are the suck. Also, I have only one size of crochet needle: large. The yarn I bought for the face: small. So, right, that didn't work at all. After a half hour of fiddling with it at ten o'clock the night before i need to give it to coworker (pre-washing, pre-blocking) I said screw it, I need to just finish this and make sure it will be dry enough to gift in the morning. I don't think it turned out too badly, do you?
